Abstract
The effect of acupuncture on the post-thracotomy pain was studied on 20 patients who underwent thracotomy. We observed post-thracotomy pain control patients from April 1995 to September 1995 in Department of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery,
Kyung
Hee Medical Center.
The patients who received thracotomy were randomly allocated and divided into two groups. Control group was treated with analgesics. Experimental group was acupuncture treatment group, concist of needle insertion at four point; Chigu (TE6),
Yangnungch'on (G34), Changmun (Liv13).
Postoperative analgesic effects were evaluated by subjective pain, limited motion of operative side and analgesia requirement.
@ES The results were as followings.
@EN 1. The subjective pain of post surgery, the first two days were severe, but the pain decreased as the days passed, and there was no significant difference between the acupuncture and the control group.
2. Post surgery, limited motion of operative side was reduced as the days passed, there was no significant difference difference between the acupuncture and the control group.
3. The amount of analgesics taken into the acupuncture group was 0.4 times a day, the control group was taken 2.3 times a day, so there was a significant difference between the groups.
4. The day of surgery and the lst, 2nd, 3rd 5th and 7th day, the average amount of analgesics taken into the acupuncture group was only 2.3 times within 6 day period but the control group was used 13.7 times within 6 day period. therefore, the
acupuncture group received much less analgesics than the other.
According to the above results, post surgery of thracotomy, the use of acupunture will reduce the analgesics, also it will be effective on a patient with low liver function or side effect to analgesics.
